The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is now recruiting volunteers for our Post-Election Equipment Audit Observation Program.

The equipment audits happen in the weeks after election day and we may only get 24 hours notice, so flexibility is key for this volunteer opportunity.

We will find out what municipalities, reporting units and contests are chosen for post-election equipment audits on Wednesday November 6, 2024 during a special Wisconsin Elections Commission meeting.

We will provide training, a reporting form to document findings, and other support!

A provocative manifesto for an interpretation of Islam that synthesizes liberal ideas and respect for the Islamic tradition. From furious reactions to the cartoons of Prophet Muhammad to the suppression of women, news from the Muslim world begs the question: is Islam incompatible with freedom? With an eye sympathetic to Western liberalism and Islamic theology, Mustafa Akyol traces the ideological and historical roots of political Islam. The years following Muhammad's passing in 632 AD saw an intellectual "war of ideas" rage between rationalist, flexible schools of Islam and the more dogmatic, rigid ones. The traditionalist school won out, fostering perceptions of Islam as antithetical to modernity. However, through his careful reexamination of the currents of Muslim thought, Akyol discovers a flourishing of liberalism in the nineteenth-century Ottoman Empire and the unique "Islamo-liberal synthesis" of present-day Turkey. Only by accepting a secular state, he powerfully asserts, can Islamic societies thrive. Persuasive and inspiring, Islam without Extremes offers a desperately needed intellectual basis for the reconcilability of Islam and religious, political, economic, and social freedoms.

Constitutional Amendment
Vote No
WI
This November, voters will have another harmful, divisive constitutional amendment on their ballot. We will show up and vote no and keep Wisconsin moving forward.

Our voting rights are literally on the ballot with this amendment. The change from "every" to "only" is a downgrade to all of our voting rights. The language changes our constitutionally protected voting rights from a guarantee for all citizens to a limitation that could be used to erode our voting rights.

In fact lawmakers have already discussed this being a step on the path to further limit our right to vote. Including by implementing a proof of citizenship requirements despite knowing that 1 in 10 US Citizens don't have the documents to prove their citizenship.
